Letter for you:

Welcome to Tutor Doctor!

We began with a vision for helping families in the Triangle area and that led us in our search for a company we felt was responsible and helpful to the community.  Soon we discovered Tutor Doctor.  At first I (Jen) was not excited about looking into a supplementary education business.  As a former teacher and school administrator, I really did not like many of the companies that my former families paid dearly for, but whose children still did not see improvement. On top of that, there was always added homework from the company curriculum.  I thought I would find the same thing at Tutor Doctor.  I was pleasantly surprised to find that it was not at all like many of the other companies I had seen.  Instead, it used the school curriculum, worked with the school (I had never seen that!) and it was one-on-one tutoring rather than group.  And the best part was that no family ever is expected to go into debt when using Tutor Doctor. We don't ask for outside financing.  As an educator, those are things I thought made it a great fit for families!

So we embarked on a new adventure!  With Tim’s previous role in the financial industry where he provided quality service training and my background in education it was a great fit!  In case you were wondering about our educational background (and I would if I were you!), Tim has a Bachelors degree in Business Administration from UMass Lowell in Massachusetts having graduated Magna Cum Laude.   He was selected for membership into Beta Gamma Sigma, the honor society for collegiate schools of business.

Jen has a Bachelors from Wheelock College (in Boston) in Human Growth and Development with minors in Elementary and Special Education. Over the years, she has taught students in preschool through grade eight, spending much of her time in the middle elementary grades.  She enjoys keeping in touch with her former students as they About-Tutor-Doctor-Cary-Apex-Raleigh-Durhammove into higher levels of education and careers.  Jen has also served as a School Administrator where she provided strong leadership to students, parents and staff.  Jen is licensed in the state of North Carolina for School Administration, Elementary Education, and Special Needs.  She recently received her Master’s degree in School Administration from the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill. Currently, she also serves as an adjunct, online professor teaching Early Childhood classes at a local community college and an active member of the Apex Chamber Education Committee.

As Tutor Doctor Raleigh-Durham owners, we continue to make a difference in the lives of children and families and enjoy keeping in touch with the many families they have worked with throughout our careers and look forward to getting to know yours.

We are sure you have many questions about how we work and what we do and we will try to answer all of them throughout the website. If we don't, please contact us personally and we will be happy to answer them!

Tutor Doctor Franchise

About 10 years ago, we had a simple idea and a desire to make a difference. We wondered why parents had to adjust their family’s busy schedules and drive half way across town just to put their child in another classroom with more kids…when in fact it was the classroom experience that their child was struggling with in the first place. We wondered….

  • What if a tutor could come directly to the child’s home to deliver tutoring services instead of fragmenting a family’s precious time together by forcing parents to act as “taxi drivers”?
  • What if there was flexibility in the tutor’s schedule so that tutoring time slots could be scheduled to accommodate for a family’s busy schedule?
  • What if a struggling child could get one on one attention instead of being limited to the “one-to-many” teaching models used by most extra-curricular learning centers?
  • What if a tutor could develop a personalized program by working with the child’s existing homework and school curriculum instead of loading more standard textbook work on an already overwhelmed child?
  • What if average families could get access to top tutoring resources sometimes reserved only for wealthier families?

These questions and more were eventually answered through the development of the Tutor Doctor program. Over the last 10 years, the Tutor Doctor vision has taken shape. In 2003 the company turned to franchising as a way of expanding the company’s impact and meeting the vast market demand. Now with offices internationally, the Tutor Doctor vision is becoming a reality as the lives of students and their families are being positively impacted.
